Petro Tech - KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

Although the knowledge-management concept has existed for several decades, its application in the oil and gas industry has been limited until recently because of the computer power requirement and the nature of our industry.  As a result of the dramatic advances in the information-technology industry and artificial-intelligence technologies in the last decade, more powerful computers, high-speed computer networks, and many great tools and techniques have made knowledge management feasible, easier, more reliable, and more useful in our industry.

Many of us have dreamed of a situation in which we access real-time operation data, and reach a group of experts virtually, to make sound engineering and economic decisions anytime, anywhere in the world with only a few keystrokes.  That dream is happening in many areas in our industry, and is what knowledge management is about.

This presentation will introduce the knowledge management, including concepts, purposes, processes, tools, and some application examples from our daily life inside the petroleum industry.
