Hydraulic fractures in core from stimulated reservoirs: core fracture description of the HFTS slant core, Reagan Co., Midland Basin, Texas [MiT/ Ret]

MiT/ Retired/ Students Registration Page

Limited Seats Available

This talk will describe the methods used to identify and document fractures in the Hydraulic Fracture Test Site (HFTS) slant core, from Reagan Co. in the Midland Basin, Texas. More than 700 fractures were found in 600 ft of core, including hydraulic fractures, two sets of calcite-sealed natural fractures, drilling-induced and core-handling fractures. In addition to information about fracture density and spatial distribution for the different types, surface features on the hydraulic fractures provide information on the direction of fracture propagation. Reactivation of discontinuities is also discussed. The talk was previously presented at URTeC 2018.
