Reservoir: Miscible EOR Process Assessment for Unconventional Reservoirs: Understanding Key Mechanisms for Optimal Field Test Design

Miscible Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) mechanisms in unconventional, tight reservoirs are substantially different than those associated with miscible gas flooding in conventional reservoirs. Due to potentially low cross-well throughput in ultra-low permeability rock, the single-well Huff-n-Puff process is being considered within the industry for application in unconventional reservoirs. The talk summarizes an integrated methodology followed for Huff-n-Puff process assessment. This approach helps explain key EOR mechanisms and demonstrates how to design an optimal scheme for field trials. Initial results indicate that carbon dioxide (CO2) Huff-and-Puff may be a technically feasible EOR method for the assessed unconventional reservoirs.
