General Meeting: Beating the Competition - Deepwater vs. Shale

ABSTRACT of Presentation

This presentation will examine the economic and technology metrics that both Deepwater and Shale share and face as they square off and compete for asset dollars.

Now that we’ve settled into our next 7-year business cycle, the oil patch finds itself getting healthy again, but in vastly different world than when it went into the last bust. Improving efficiencies, completion of “the great crew change”, and emerging/alternative energy sources are keeping “lower-for-longer” for the foreseeable future.

Deepwater prospects which have been a big part of the oil patch’s growth engine in the previous decade face significant competitive headwinds in this decade, primarily from Shale. Shale is a formidable opponent, continuing to improve production efficiencies and accessing more market share. For Deepwater to compete, it will need to undergo similar introspection; finding new configurations and efficiencies other than just “dropping the cost of equipment”.
