Westside: Interactions between Fractured Horizontal Wells and their Consequences
Different types of interactions occur between adjacent horizontal wells at different stages of their life. While drilling and completing a new well in a previously fractured area, these interactions can cause stuck pipe, lost circulation, and damage to existing hydraulic fractures. During fracturing, they can cause an increase in the pressure of the passive offset shut-in wells, and migration of fracturing fluid and even proppant into them. They can also cause liner damage. Post-fracturing, they can cause swift or delayed production interference.
This presentation discusses the different types of interactions, their causes, and their expected degrees and timing of production interference. It will also explore ways of minimizing or eliminating their mechanical and physical damage to the wellbore.
