MiT: KAPPA PTA/RTA Refresher class
This course is for Members in Transition only. Bring your own laptop. The course is being provided by KAPPA for professional SPE members seeking employment. The registration fee covers lunch for both days.
The course is a refresher for reservoir engineers with some prior experience with PTA/RTA. Attendees will get an overview of the theory and model components, and will have hands-on experience with the latest methodology and workflow. They will be equipped with knowledge for performing standard well testing and production data analysis tasks.
Introduction and basic theory of diffusion PTA / RTA
When do we perform PTA or RTA? The basic principles and terminology governing both methods. Introduction to Darcy’s law and the equation of state leading to the diffusivity equation, the principle of superposition, infinite-acting radial flow, wellbore storage and skin and pseudo-steady state.
Overview of Well/Reservoir/Boundary models
Basic well models (vertical wells, skin, finite/infinite conductivity fractures, limited entry and horizontal wells), reservoir models (homogenous and heterogeneous models behavior), boundary models (single limit, intersecting, parallel faults and closed system).
PTA methodology & Saphir NL practical
Methodology from the simple straight line Horner to the current model-on-the-fly Bourdet derivative. The basic Saphir NL features including the interpretation path of load, basic QAQC and edit, model, classical methods, the derivative and the application to field examples. Modern workflow: from diagnostics to analytical/numerical models.
RTA methodology & Topaze NL practical
Methodology from the basic empirical methods to the current modern diagnostic plots. The basic Topaze NL features including the interpretation path of load, edit, model, p(q), q(p), fast model. The principle of the linear (single phase) numerical model, how to build a model including defining the well type, composite zones, faults and thickness.
Test objectives and how to design a test to achieve them.
Basic gas tests
The use of pseudopressures and multiple period analysis for rate dependant skin.
