RoughNeck Camp aims to provide a technical overview of the industry, as well as networking opportunities to an estimated 250 students, interns, and young professionals.

The conference will educate the audience on the diverse job roles available to them in the Energy Industry. Upstream, midstream, downstream and other domains such as law, finance, fabrication, and trading will be covered. The conference is extremely interactive with opportunities to interface directly with industry leaders and network with STEM professionals from various stages in their careers. The experience levels of the speakers have also been varied to allow for diversity not only in job roles but also career perspectives.

RNC 2018 is taking a collaborative approach this year by showcasing the many disciplines that play a role in bringing hydrocarbons from ground to market. The commercial lifecycle of petroleum will be covered by a host of influential industry leaders throughout the day, to highlight the many career paths available to the incoming professionals. We have three speakers and a senior panel session in the morning. Our afternoon session will kick off with a Young Professional panel session on career advice, then a roundtable discussion with individuals in diverse job roles in an interactive career session. We will conclude at around 16:00 hrs. at ExxonMobil and immediately proceed to the Social for networking over drinks and refreshments.

Highlights will include:

  • Learning about the career paths that interest you, and how you can excel in it
  • Gaining an insight into the commercial lifecycle of oil and gas, including the major disciplines that you can be a part of
  • Engaging with industry leaders in our interactive roundtable sessions

Raymond Jones
VP Asia Pacific

Raymond Jones has 29 years of oil and gas industry experience with ExxonMobil. As Vice President, Asia Pacific for ExxonMobil Production Company, his portfolio currently includes projects and other development opportunities in Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and Vietnam. He has held various technical, operations and business positions in Houston, New Orleans, Qatar and Nigeria. Raymond’s recent assignments include serving as Vice President, Asia Pacific/Established Areas for ExxonMobil Development Company, President of Golden Pass LNG and Executive Director of Projects for the ExxonMobil Affiliates in Nigeria. He received a Bachelor's degree with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University and a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Houston, Clear Lake.

Chandler T. Wilhelm has been employed by the various operating companies of Royal Dutch Shell since 1983.  While at Shell he has worked in a variety of technical and managerial roles in  almost all the main petroleum basins in the U.S., and internationally in over 20 countries, including Shell’s global Deepwater business, and since 2009, Shell’s Unconventionals business, where he currently serves as Vice President of Portfolio and Emerging Basins. He is a member of the SPE, the Houston Geological Society, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and is the Past President of the AAPG's Division of Professional Affairs and recipient of its Distinguished Service and Past President's awards. He is a Trustee for the American Geosciences Institute Foundation and the AAPG Foundation, and serves on the University of Colorado Department of Geological Sciences Advisory Board. Chandler has degrees in Geology from Pomona College (B.A. 1976) and the University of Colorado (M.S. 1983), and a Graduate Certificate in Global Finance from the University of Texas (1997).  








Tim Duncan
Talos Energy Inc.

Tim Duncan has served as President and CEO of Talos Energy and as a member of the Talos Energy Board since April 2012 and is a founder of Talos Energy. Prior to Talos, Mr. Duncan was the Senior V.P. of Business Development and founder of Phoenix Exploration in April 2006, where he was responsible for all of Phoenix's business development evaluations and negotiations, including the sale of the company to Apache Corp. Prior to Phoenix Exploration, Mr. Duncan served as Manager of Reservoir Engineering and Evaluations for Gryphon Exploration. Mr. Duncan also worked in various reservoir engineering and portfolio evaluation functions for Amerada Hess Corporation, Zilkha Energy Company, and Pennzoil E&P Company. Mr. Duncan has a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University where he was honored in 2012 as a Distinguished Fellow of the Engineering. Mr. Duncan also has an MBA from Bauer Executive Program at the University of Houston. He is an active member of SPE, IPAA, the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) and the Young Presidents' Organization. Mr. Duncan also serves on various academically focused advisory boards, including the College of Engineering Dean's Advisory and the Foundation Board at Mississippi State University. Mr. Duncan was named as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Program for Energy and Energy Services sector in the Gulf. 




Eric Zimmermann
VP Geology/Exploration

Eric Zimmermann is Vice President of Geology of LLOG Exploration and has worked been with the company since 2007. Prior to LLOG, Mr. Zimmermann worked for BP and Dominion.  Mr. Zimmermann’s experience has been focused on exploration and development projects in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Zimmermann received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Geology from Louisiana State University.  He is a Professional Geologist in the states of Texas and Louisiana and is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London.


 Jessica Keiser

Targa Resources Corp

Jessica Keiser is the Senior Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety (ES&H) and Pipeline Regulatory Compliance at Targa Resources Corp, a Fortune 500 company with a $10B market cap.  As head of the ES&H function, Mrs. Keiser is responsible for collaborating closely with engineering, operations, and commercial functional leaders to deliver the business objectives.  She also leads Targa’s compliance, due diligence and advocacy efforts in ES&H, one of the high impact areas of any company in this industry. She is an Executive Member and member of the Advisory Board for the Women’s Energy Network in Houston.



 Buddy Clark

Buddy Clark is the co-chair of Haynes and Boone, LLP’s Energy Practice Group and nationally recognized as a speaker on energy finance.  In June 2016, he published the definitive book on oil and gas finance, Oil Capital: The History of American Oil, Wildcatters, Independents and Their Bankers. He has been recognized as a leading energy lawyer in the Energy and Natural Resources Expert Guide, Legal Media Group, Best Lawyers in America, Woodward/White, Inc., and Houston Business Journal.




Patricia L. Dynan
Global Methanol Commercial Director
The Dow Chemical Company

Patricia Dynan is the Global Methanol Commercial Director for The Dow Chemical Company, a Fortune 500 Company. She is responsible for the development and implementation of the global commercial strategy for Dow’s methanol supply. She has over 10 years of commercial experience in US and Canadian energy markets. Patricia also has commercial experience in raw material purchasing, business development, and sales. Prior to her commercial roles, she worked in research and in technical service. Patricia has enjoyed a 30 year career with Dow and its subsidiary, Rohm and Haas.  She is a member of Dow’s Women’s Innovation Network, GLAD (Gays, Lesbians, and Allies at Dow), the Houston Dow Institute, and the Houston Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network.



 Geoff Roberts
Managing Director and Head of US A&D

Geoff Roberts has 39 years in the upstream petroleum engineering, finance, and A&D advisory fields and currently serves as a Managing Director and Head of U.S. A&D for BMO Capital. He began his career as a Petroleum Engineer with Amoco and since then has focused on A&D while working with energy banks, private E&Ps and advisory firms. He founded Roberts & Associates, Madison Energy Advisors, and Roberts Energy Advisors, co-founded Centurion Exploration Company, and built A&D divisions for Randall & Dewey (Jeffries) and The Oil & Gas Asset Clearinghouse. 



 Rick Talley
Senior Vice President

Rick Talley joined NSAI in 2004 after serving as a Senior Engineer at ExxonMobil Production Company. Rick has significant experience with preparing reserves evaluations for conventional assets in all major United States producing basins, the Gulf of Mexico, and Israel. His work also includes evaluations for numerous tight gas and shale gas and oil basins in the United States and in Argentina. He holds an M.B.A., Tulane University, 2001 and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, University of Oklahoma, 1998.




Laura Freeman
Managing Director

Laura Freeman is a Managing Director and founder of Highpoint Global Capital which currently has over $150 million in mandates helping oil and gas operators find, evaluate, and close acquisitions, divest of properties, and secure bank and alternative financing.Ms. Freeman specializes in buy and sell-side advisory, reserves valuation, reservoir engineering, well review, development planning, financials, strategic planning and technical due diligence. Ms. Freeman has a Masters in Petroleum Engineering as well as an MBA and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. She has also been featured as an expert on M&A, banking topics, and Reservoir Engineering for Oil and Gas Financial Journal, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and 




Janet Yang

Janet Yang was appointed Vice President, Corporate & Business Development for W&T Offshore, Inc. in 2017, after holding various positions of increasing responsibility since joining the Company in 2008.  Ms. Yang has over 15 years of finance, investment and strategy experience in the energy industry.  Prior to joining W&T, Ms. Yang held positions in research and investment analysis at BlackGold Capital Management, investment banking at Raymond James and energy trading at Allegheny Energy.  Ms. Yang received a B.A. in Economics from Rice University and an M.B.A. with concentrations in Finance and Accounting from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.





Alamzeb Khan
Electrical Engineering Manager
National Oilwell Varco

Alamzeb Khan has worked for National Oilwell Varco since 2008. He started in the Measurements and Research group working exclusively on downhole electronics related to drilling dynamics tools in BHA assembly. He has in the past worked on electronic circuit design for high temperature and high-pressure downhole electronics as well as testing and qualifying electronic components for HP/HT use. He has also developed downhole sensor-based algorithms for downhole tools and helped in creating visualizations for data analysis. In his current role as an Electrical Engineering Manager, his group is exploring ways to embed sensor packages in other downhole tools to validate drilling performance. He obtained his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from UT Austin and a Masters in Engineering from Texas A&M with a combined concentration in mixed signal electronics and petroleum drilling processes. He has worked on various research projects within NOV culminating in 2 granted patents, a few current patent applications, and various internal research papers.





Demetrius Harrell
Wells Operations Team Lead
Shell Exploration & Production Company

Demetrius Harrell was appointed Wells Operations Team Lead (WOTL) for Well Interventions and subsequently as WOTL for Shell’s deep water Perdido asset in July 2017. In this position, he is responsible for managing and directing the safe execution of critical drilling, completion and well intervention operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Previously, he served as Business Advisor to the President of Shell Oil Company and was responsible for assisting the President fulfill a myriad of obligations, including: managing U.S. operations, maintaining strong U.S. crisis management capability and implementing strategies to reinforce Shell’s position as a global leader in the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining shell Demetrius' previous career consisted of serving his country with distinction as a United States Naval Officer from September of 2001 through August of 2007. Accomplishments included combat naval deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Demetrius graduate with honors from the University of South Carolina in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.



Sam Attaya

Sam Attaya is an MD and Sr. Petroleum Engineer in JPMorgan's Oil and Gas Finance practice. He performs collateral evaluation on oil and gas reserves and their associated facilities for existing, new and potential relationships. Sam has worked in the commercial lending industry for the past 34 years. He has worked for seven different financial institutions, all the result of mergers, giving him a unique perspective regarding shifts in culture and risk appetite with each succeeding merger.



Todd Dragon

Todd Dragon serves as the Engineering Manager for Stress Engineering and Construction, Inc. His background includes over 25 years of experience with major international firms executing large Engineering/Procurement/Construction projects in the chemical, petrochemical, refinery, general facilities, and government sectors.  His roles have included Process Engineer, Process Engineering Group Supervisor/Lead, Project Engineer, Project Manager and Engineering Manager.  He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas, Alabama, and Mississippi.




 Armand Paradis

Armand Paradis co-founded Inside Petroleum (INPT) in 2017 to create a more effective way of analyzing oil and gas data. Armand, who has nearly a decade of experience in reservoir engineering, programming and data analysis, chose to explore new ideas and options after realizing that the current methods of well performance analysis could be optimized. In 2010, he was recruited from University of Louisiana to work as a senior reservoir engineer for Metairie Energy. After five years, Armand joined Statoil to work on the lower 48 resource plays. With his strong experience, he then branched off into entrepreneurship with INPT. 



 Vinay Mahadevan

San Mateo Midstream LLC

Vinay Mahadevan serves as General Manager of Operations since 2017 for San Mateo Midstream, a wholly owned subsidiary of Matador Resources and Five Point Capital Partners. Prior to this role, he served as a Facilities Engineer for Matador since 2015. Mr. Mahadevan received his Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics, International Relations, and Computer Engineering from West Point in 2005. He received his Master's in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2016, and his MBA from UT - Red McCombs School of Business in 2017.  





Alison Johnson
Marketing Manager

Alison Johnson is currently a Marketing Manager, Technical Marketing at Transocean.  She joined Transocean in late 2017 from BHGE where she was in her second year as an XLP, GE’s company-wide executive talent development program.  During her time at GE, she held roles of increasing responsibility including leading commercial activities for all 20 ksi opportunities in the Drilling business.  Prior to joining BHGE, Alison served five years in the Air Force as a Contracting Officer in Germany, France, and Iraq.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering Management from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master of Science in Technology Commercialization from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University.



Poojan John
Economic Analyst

Poojan John began her career at Citgo as an intern in 2008. She joined full-time with Citgo upon receiving her bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from TAMU in 2010. From there she has worked as a Process Engineer in the Coker Unit, Hydro Treating Unit, Vacuum Units, and the Sulfur Recovery Unit. In 2014, she was promoted to the Business Optimizatin Group where she was in charge of the crude and feedstock scheduling for two years. After her success, she was promoted again in 2016 to the Economics Group. She is currently in charge of optimizing the purchase and sales of feeds and products in and out of the refinery. 



Anders Johnson
VP of Storage
Kinder Morgan Inc

Anders Johnson is Vice President of Storage for Kinder Morgan’s Natural Gas Pipeline Group.  He has over 30 years of experience in Engineering, Gas Control, Operations, Planning, Storage, and System Design.  Previously Mr. Johnson served as Director Facility Planning for PG&E, Director of Pipeline System Design for Kinder Morgan, Director of Gas Control and Facility Planning for TGP.  He patented an inline electric motor driven compressor early in his career and published papers covering gas pipeline simulation, expert systems for natural gas transmission, and gas/electric partnerships. 



Alex Mendiola
Cementing Specialist

Alex Mendiola is a cementing specialist with 18 years of international experience in well construction in Deepwater and shelf assets. He has worked with conventional and unconventional portfolios, using his background in cementing products and tools, hydraulic simulators, regulatory requirements, contractor management, and cementing design, execution, and evaluation. He assisted BP in successfully regaining control of the Macondo Well. Mr. Mendiola holds a BS in Chemical Engineering and a BS in Biology from UH. 




Christie McMillan
Callon Petroleum

Christie McMillan has diverse financial and operational expertise in the oil and gas industry. Ms. McMillan is currently a member of the Finance team at Callon Petroleum, having joined in June 2016 to manage responsibilities in risk management, hedging, financial analysis, investor relations, and corporate development. She began her career and gained industry perspective with IHS Markit. Following IHS, Ms. McMillan held various roles within business development and technical sales with Cal Dive and other oilfield service companies. Her involvement spanned all operational phases including regulatory, land, drilling, completions, and environmental. Ms. McMillan graduated with a BBA degree from Texas State University and received her MBA from Texas A&M University.



Ilshat Kharisov

Ilshat Kharisov is a core Oil & Gas Principal at the Boston Consulting Group. He has 10+ years of management consulting experience in Europe, Asia, and the US. His project work focuses on downstream oil and gas and chemicals industry with concentration on strategy, operational excellence, and organization topics. Ilshat holds a Ph.D. degree in management science and is based in BCG's Houston office. 



Gaye Greever McElwain
Communications and Outreach Manager

As the Railroad Commission of Texas’ Public Outreach Manager, Gaye Greever McElwain oversees communication initiatives and educational outreach events targeted to the public, oil and gas industry representatives, government officials and foreign dignitaries. She also assists with media and government relations, conference planning and website content development. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Texas Tech University and a master of fine arts degree from the University of Oklahoma.



Luis Lugo

Luis Lugo is a 2005 Mechanical Engineering graduate from Texas A&M and holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Houston. Out of school, he worked in various engineering roles in Shell Deer Park refinery and chemical plant. In 2010 he joined Shell Trading through the trader development program and started trading full time in 2012. He currently trades Power and Natural Gas in the U.S.


Jordan Frisby

Jordan Frisby is an economic analyst who is a part of the Marketing and External Communications Dept in the commercial division of Port of Houston Authority. He joined POHA in 2010 and is involved in market analysis, statistics, forecasting, and economic development. Mr. Frisby graduated from the University of Texas with bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Economics in 2009 and received his master's in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010.


Brage Johannessen



Brage Johannessen is a Vice President of Integrated Well Services for Baker Hughes a General Electric Company. He leads a team who is responsible for contracting, planning, and executing projects with varying degree of complexity and scope within the entire O&G value chain. Prior to his role at BHGE, he served as the Executive VP for Ensign Energy Services where he managed P&L as well as led operational teams across geographical areas of responsibility. His previous roles include managing drilling services product line groups, water management, and subsea production business development. In his 27 years of oil and gas experience, with 10 of those being in executive management roles, he has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America. 



Anne Huber

Anne has over 36 years of experience in the refining and petrochemicals field.  Industry experience with Chevron, Chevron Phillips Chemical and American Styrenics afforded her many diverse roles including refinery engineer, crude oil trader, rail systems supervisor and supply chain manager. She has traded energy futures and options. and managed domestic benzene and styrene plant planning and commercial operations through two joint venture start-ups. Anne has also authored several important studies for Argus Consulting Services, including  Base Oil Economics Study, Shale Oil Trends to 2020, and Refining Outlook for Atlantic Basin. Anne earned a BSc in Civil Engineering from Stanford University.




Jeferson Santos

Jeferson Santos is a Project Leader in the Houston office of The Boston Consulting Group, where he is a core member of BCG's Oil & Gas practice. Jeferson first joined BCG's Sao Paulo office as an Associate in 2012. Within Oil & Gas, his experience covers Strategy, Operations, and Organization. While Oil & Gas is Jeferson's primary focus, he has also worked in Industrial Goods, Pharmaceuticals, Reinsurance, and Consumer Goods.




Adrian Bregnard

Project Americas

Adrian Bregnard leads a team of supply chain professionals developing project contracting strategies, negotiating EPC contracts, procuring equipment, managing materials, and leading contract management services to Shell's major projects in the Americas region including Deepwater, Refining, Chemicals, Midstream, and LNG. He joined Shell in New Orleans in 1996 upon graduating from the University of Oklahoma. Adrian has held a variety of supply chain positions of increasing responsibility across Shell’s businesses including Upstream Deepwater, Downstream, and Projects & Technology. He has graduated from University of Oklahoma with Bachelors in Operations Management and from Tulane University with an MBA (Finance).

Vivek Ghosh is a Staff Wells Engineer for Shell Exploration & Production Company, working in Houston and New Orleans. As of May 2018 he was appointed as the engineering focal point for well interventions on Olympus, Shell’s seventh, and largest, floating deep-water drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico. For the past 5 years, Vivek has demonstrated consistent leadership by safely executing drilling, completion and intervention projects on 20+ deepwater wells in the Gulf of Mexico. Prior, Vivek worked at Lloyds Register Technical Services and designed valves for US Army Corps of Engineers. Vivek has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Houston and a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, specializing in matrix acidizing. Vivek is involved with SPE GSC YPs, liaison for SPE GCS Business Development, and director at large for the SPE GCS Board.




Madeline Bull

Madeline Bull
Project Engineer


Madeline Bull is a Project Engineer at PinnacleART where she develops inspection strategies for refinery equipment, specializing in tank strategies. Previously, Madeline served as an Operations Engineer and the Director of Business Development for Sierra Pine Resources. Madeline began her career as a Field Engineer with HighMount Exploration & Production, working on projects in West Texas and Eastern Oklahoma. After HighMount, she joined Chevron as a Reservoir Engineer for a non-operated field under gas compression pressurization in Bakersfield, California. Madeline then transitioned to Houston as a Production Engineer for the Malongo field in Angola. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. While in college, Madeline served as the first female president of the OU chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. She is also currently the Networking Chair for the SPE Gulf Coast Section Young Professionals and the incoming Vice Treasurer for the upcoming year.
