Northside: Freshwater Neutral: Operational Water Use and Giving Back to the Environment

Southwestern Energy (SWN) is committed to offsetting our freshwater footprint by reducing our freshwater usage and replenishing any fresh water that we do use, barrel for barrel, through conservation projects (i.e., “Freshwater Neutral”). In 2013, our CEO issued the imperative that we would be freshwater neutral in all operations within three years. SWN achieved a freshwater neutral status in 2016 within each operating division in a manner that is operationally and economically feasible, and provides value to our neighboring communities and environment.

This presentation will cover SWN’s approach to water management, how we offset the fresh water that we do use, and some of the challenges that we overcame along the way.
