Westside - Deepwater Reservoir Compaction: The Beauty and the Beast
This presentation will focus on the key issues related to reservoir compaction in deepwater offshore environments. These reservoirs are normally over-pressured, under-saturated, and are contained within weak sand/shale sequences that are prone to high pore volumes and permeability reductions upon pressure depletion. Assessment of pertinent reservoir properties, including faults, compaction evaluation, and assessment and assurance of reservoir integrity will be addressed. Both the positive and negative results of deepwater reservoir exploitation will be presented, along with some recent work on field verifications highlighting the ultimate impact on reserve integrity and recovery.
