S&E - Deepwater Drilling - A New Risk Reality

Exploration and developments continue to move into deep water introducing a new operating environment and a number of specific challenges not encountered in sallow water activities. This increased focus on deep water drilling has pushed the development of new technology and operators to look for new and more cost efficient drilling concepts and alternatives. In this presentation some of the specific issues related to well control and other HSE related issues for deep water drilling operations will be addressed. A specific case study of a new drilling system, integrated active heave hoisting, will be presented. Focus will be on the methodology applied to address the complexity of this integrated system, and address technical and HSE risk issues.
