Westside: Shale Well Performance Following an Extended Shut-In: “Soaking”
Traditionally, shutting in a well has been viewed as potentially detrimental to well performance, due to water imbibition. However, operators in several of the shale plays have noticed that well performance, in terms of flow capacity, can significantly increase after an extended shut-in period. This phenomena has been referred to as "soaking" a well. This talk will present case histories and laboratory data to help explain the resulting increase in flow capacity, along with a model for candidate selection.
