International: Local Content in Mexico: Challenges and Opportunities

On September 8, 2015, the International Study Group (ISG), in conjunction with the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Social Responsibility (HSSE-SR) Study Group, is hosting a panel session and luncheon at Petroleum Club of Houston on “Local Content in Mexico: Challenges and Opportunities.”

The event will focus on:

  • Current and upcoming local content policies and regulations.
  • Experience of global companies managing local content in the oil and gas value chain in Mexico.

Attendees will leave with a better understanding of:

  • Local content requirements and how and when the government will be enforcing them.
  • Perceived versus actual risks of contracting local content suppliers and workers in Mexico (e.g., health, safety, security, environmental, financial, legal, social, etc.).

Following this event, the SPE-GCS plans to host a series of events on relevant and timely sustainable development and HSSE-SR topics in Mexico.

The panel session is sponsored by the Institute of International Education (IIE), an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to international education and training. More information on the IIE may be found at their website, www.iie.org.
