International: The Mexican Energy Reform: Will Mexico Be Competitive?

Late last year, the Mexican government approved a constitutional change that opened the country’s oil and gas industry to foreign investment, ending 76 years of state monopoly. With the first round of bidding planned for next year, Alan Cunningham, Technical Director at Gaffney, Cline & Associates, will seek to answer the question: “Will Mexico be competitive?”

Alan’s presentation will examine the three factors companies are likely to consider when evaluating investment opportunities in Mexico.  These include:  i) the nature of the resource potential, ii)  the fiscal attributes of the new Mexican contract regimes, and, iii) non-technical risk factors that might impact investment decisions.  Using these criteria, Alan will compare Mexico to its primary North and South American competitors for upstream investments.
