International: The Petrochemical Boom - Past and Present
The ongoing American shale gas revolution has sparked a construction boom as the petrochemical industry looks to takes advantage of the inexpensive feed stock. Chemical companies have committed billions to project in the Gulf Coast and the Marcellus Shale regions.
For Barbara Shook, these industry developments are reminiscent of another U.S. petrochemicals boom. She recalls the furious construction of the early 1950’s, when bountiful NGL from the East Texas Oil Field and rulings made by the Texas Railroad Commission to limit the flaring of casinghead gas, spurred the growth of new petrochemicals plants in Texas.
At this International Study Group Luncheon, Barbara will share her memories from the nascency of Texas’s petrochemical industry, compare those early days to the recent developments, and discuss the impact the U.S. petrochemical boom will have on the global industry.
