Permian Basin / Westside: Two emerging water quality issues in the Permian Basin

This talk summarizes two different water quality issues that are on the rise in the Permian Basin. Algal blooms in frac ponds and increasing salinity of the aquifer can each contribute to erratic performance of borate-crosslinked guar fracturing fluids if they are not addressed. We present two case studies where a first-principles approach to the underlying chemistry yielded superior fluid performance in the face of these significant challenges.
