Openhole vs. Cement, Plug-and-Perf vs. Sleeves:
What Should be Considered When Evaluating Completion Options?

Horizontal wells that are to be stimulated with transverse fractures are usually completed either openhole with annular isolation packers or cemented.  Fluid communication is established by perforating or using stimulation sleeves.  The industry continues to grapple with several issues regarding these completions, such as what is the optimum number of fractured intervals, and which approach (openhole vs. cemented) provides the best hydrocarbon production.  In addition, the ever-increasing number of fractured intervals is causing an increase in operational time constraints.

As originally presented in SPE 142279, analysis results will be shown that highlight the production differences between openhole and cemented completions.  The differences in operational time constraints for plug-and-perf completions vs. sleeve completions will also be discussed.
