Abstract
Improved living standards and new construction and infrastructure projects are increasing the demand for energy around the world, especially in places like China and India. According to estimates, by 2035 we will use 50% more energy than today. Meeting our future energy needs will require a mix of traditional and renewable sources: oil from deep water and oil sands, to algae and biofuels. Helge Haldorsen will discuss the challenges and opportunities of our energy future.
Speaker Bio
Helge Hove Haldorsen is Vice President of Strategy for Statoil in Houston. Prior to Statoil, Helge held several key positions for Norsk Hydro E&P including Chief Reservoir Engineer, VP Exploration and Research and President of International E&P. Helge was a Second Lieutenant in The Royal Norwegian Navy and held various positions at Esso Exploration Norway, Sohio Petroleum Company, and The British Petroleum Company in San Francisco, Anchorage and London. Helge has been a Professor of Industrial Mathematics at the University of Oslo as well as a lecturer at Stanford University. Helge has been a director of, and a distinguished lecturer for, the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is a member of the advisory board of the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, a member of the OTC Board of Directors and a director of the World Affairs Council of Houston.
