Drilling: New Technology for Understanding Downhole Vibrations and their Damaging Effects in select North America Drilling Applications

Using new in-bit vibration monitoring technology, a study was performed to gain much greater detail on downhole vibrations (at the drill bit) and their damaging effects.  The process included analysis of not only the BHA and certain chosen configurations but also the effects of several operating parameters.  A variety of both research environment and actual field drilling in select North America applications were conducted as a means to:  1) verify the technology and 2) better quantify the type and severity of downhole vibrations in order to develop appropriate vibration mitigation strategies
