Digital Energy: Chevron's i-Field - A Case Study

Most large E&P companies now have some sort of Digital Oil Field Program.  While most of the activities cover similar objectives, each has its own unique character and each is shaped by drivers specific to the priorities and culture of the company and the specific expectations of the business and technology champions in that company.  Chevron's i-field program has its roots in production engineering and operations.

Early projects were initiated by operations managers, largely in the US and North Sea business units.  Building on the success of those projects and the strategic vision of key executive champions in Chevron, the scope of the program is now reaching out to additional areas, such as marine logistics.

Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Strategic Business Unit has improved their marine vessel utilization and fleet management processes through the implementation of an Offshore Logistics Decision Support Center.  The Offshore Logistics Decision Support Center is located in Covington, LA at the Gulf of Mexico Strategic Business Unit Main office and is equipped with the people, processes and technology to coordinate logistics across multiple shore bases and several hundred structures in the Gulf of Mexico.

After just over a year in operation, improvements in both safety and cost management have been identified as a result of this initiative.
