Petro - Tech Study Group Sponsors ROVs in the 21st century
Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV's) entered commercial oilfield service in the mid-1970's. Over the last 25 years the role of the ROV has changed dramatically. They have evolved from unreliable underwater cameras to reliable, powerful workhorses without which complex subsea production systems could not be possible. From drilling to installation to production, the ROV is an integral part of subsea. Charles Royce and Bob Curtis of Oceaneering International, Inc. will review ''ROV's in the 21st century'', presenting the latest in ROV systems, Tooling, Launch and Recovery systems and the training of ROV operators including VSIS (Virtual Subsea Intervention Solutions) a virtual world which allows subsea engineers to get their hardware into the virtual world; and allows the ROV operator to train on as close to real world as possible.
