S&E: Offshore Arctic - Discharge and Relief Well Challenges
Offshore Arctic drilling and production operations present many challenges. Two major challenges are managing the waste stream and ensuring that well control procedures, processes, and equipment meet regulatory and stakeholder requirements. The logistical challenges of remote offshore Arctic operations create problems with waste transportation, vessel protection from ice hazards, and regulatory concerns. This same remoteness, low level of activity, and lack of infrastructure complicates meeting current relief well requirements. The aim of this workshop is to understand current industry methods for dealing with waste streams and well control, and to determine if there are subsets that could be considered consensus best practices. Each participating company will be expected to present their practices or plans as a basis for discussion on what methods could be considered best in class. The output will be a compilation of consensus best practices, issues remaining to be resolved and needs for additional technology.
