C&P: Simulation & Inflow Measurement Can Offer Maximized Production and Recovery for Horizontal Completions

Horizontal completion simulating, executing, and verifying are steps that sound simple but are often challenging to carry out. The rewards, however, can mean maximized production and recovery and improved completion efficiency. A fully coupled wellbore/reservoir simulator performs integrated simulations of advanced completions combined with transient reservoir analysis. It can incorporate any flow geometry including multilaterals and multiphase flow. This enables the design and placement of the most economical and beneficial completion for the wellbore maximizing production and recovery. If necessary, low velocity, low viscosity sensitive inflow control devices can be placed along the wellbore to enhance the inflow performance. Once the well is on production DTS logging can be performed to verify the simulator’s accuracy and the completions efficiency. The inflow information is then used to improve the simulator and make adjustments to the subsequent completions. This feedback process is an important step in achieving the ideal completion for rate and recovery.
