An Overview of Current Oil and Gas Activity in the Permian Basin

The Permian Basin produces over 1 million barrels of oil each day which is 20% of lower 48 production.  It accounts for 68% of Texas' total production and 80% of Texas' reserves. $100/bbl prices have increased activity in producing trends and have stimulated interest in unconventional resources. The area oil and gas industry is operating at full capacity and is only constrained by a current shortage of trained workers. The talk will discuss current opportunities and challenges facing the Permian Basin Oil and Gas Industry. Active plays including the Wolf-Berry, Wolfcamp, Barnett/Woodford Shales, Canyon Sands, Morrow, Texas Overthrust and traditional Permian age production will be discussed. The talk will conclude with a short discussion of planned renewable energy projects and the effects of workforce and affordable housing on overall energy development in the basin.
