Westside: Deliquifying Gas Wells for Full Depletion

Deliquifying Gas Wells for Full Depletion

Improving gas well recovery by removing wellbore liquids accumulation is of growing interest to the industry.  As an example, ALRDC/SWPC sponsors a workshop each year on this topic, and attendance has grown from 250 in 2003 to 650 in 2007.

A perennial gas well production issue is deliquification technique selection.  To date, selection is done with matrices showing the relative merits of various artificial lift methods.  What this approach lacks is an understanding of optimum deliquification performance through the entire depletion cycle.  This presentation takes the first step towards a more unified view of liquid removal through the life of the well.

Furthermore, both regulators and investors are demanding more detailed bases for booked reserves, and the method that will be described offers a defensible estimation of the economic limit with respect to liquids accumulation that honors the depth, productivity, and completion characteristics of the particular well.
