Project, Facilities & Construction: Grouped SLOR Concept for Offshore Risers

Developing deepwater oil fields presents a number of challenges, not least of which is the selection of a riser system that will survive the life of the field. 2H Offshore is a specialist riser engineering company and has been involved in free-standing riser systems since 1995. A number of factors have led to the popularity of these systems in recent years namely their reduced dependence on floater motions resulting in improved performance and reduced design dependence. Recently the demands of multiple riser systems led 2H Offshore to design the Grouped SLOR™ concept which was tested and proposed for a major West African development together with Subsea 7.

In this talk, 2H’s Karim Jan will explain how free-standing riser systems were originally conceived, how they developed and their recent culmination in the latest iteration of the free-standing riser technology named Grouped SLOR™. The presentation will cover the general design features, the computational modeling carried out as well as its verification using tank testing. The talk will also touch on some of methodologies involved in the installation of the Grouped SLOR™ riser system.
