This event shall focus on &ldquo\;Lifting the Veil from Un conventional Production&rdquo\;. \r\nUnconventional production has changed the U.S. oil and gas industry, moving the focus and more importantly CAPE X spend from deepwater offshore and international to domestic onshore. Th e reason for this shift of focus is of course economics and geologic succe ss rate. Unconventional resources tend to be measured in billions of barr els and trillions of cubic feet in place, an order of magnitude higher tha t typical conventional resources with enormous areal extent.\r\nWhether ti ght rock, immobile fluids or captured in source rock, the sheer quantity o f the resource provides a strong interest to make development feasible. S ome common attributes are appearing in the development of these resources with tight well spacing, extreme reservoir contact and extreme stimulation playing a role in the tight rock and captured hydrocarbon arena, while st eam and CO2 play more in the immobile liquids sector.\r\nThis series is in tended to &lsquo\;Lift the Veil&rsquo\; on the differences, and highlight the similarities, between conventional and unconventional production and f ield development techniques. The 1 hour lectures are aimed to be technica l and provide valuable lessons learned and are followed by 30 minutes of q uestions and discussion in order to promote understanding of the presented principles.\r\nIn the second installment in the series, Ellen Coopersmith will present an insight into Decision Analysis and Scenario Thinking into as it applies to Asset Strategy. The goal to achieve &ldquo\;front-end l oading&rdquo\; of a company&rsquo\;s existing decision processes to focus the asset team early, speed the analysis, and, most importantly, bring gre ater clarity and value to each decision. The Project, Facilities and Construction Study Group is pleased to an nounce our Spring Lecture Series for 2014. This event shall focus on &ldqu o\;Lifting the Veil from Unconventional Production &rdquo\;.
Unconventional product ion has changed the U.S. oil and gas industry, moving the focus and more i mportantly CAPEX spend from deepwater offshore and international to domest ic onshore. \; The reason for this shift of focus is of course economi cs and geologic success rate. \; Unconventional resources tend to be m easured in billions of barrels and trillions of cubic feet in place, an or der of magnitude higher that typical conventional resources with enormous areal extent.
Whether tight rock, immobile fluids or captured i n source rock, the sheer quantity of the resource provides a strong intere st to make development feasible. \; Some common attributes are appeari ng in the development of these resources with tight well spacing, extreme reservoir contact and extreme stimulation playing a role in the tight rock and captured hydrocarbon arena, while steam and CO2 pla y more in the immobile liquids sector.
This series is intended to &lsq uo\;Lift the Veil&rsquo\; on the differences, and highlight the similariti es, between conventional and unconventional production and field developme nt techniques. \; The 1 hour lectures are aimed to be technical and pr ovide valuable lessons learned and are followed by 30 minutes of questions and discussion in order to promote understanding of the presented princip les.
In the second installm ent in the series, Ellen Coopersmith will present an insight into Decision Analysis and Scenario Thinking into as it applies to Asset Strategy.  \; The goal to achieve &ldquo\;front-end loading&rdquo\; of a company&rsqu o\;s existing decision processes to focus the asset team early, speed the analysis, and, most importantly, bring greater clarity and value to each d ecision. Ellen is the founder of Decision Frameworks and a Petroleum Engin eer with a degree from the Colorado School of Mines. Prior to founding Dec ision Frameworks in 1999, Ellen spent 16 years at Conoco, where she led th eir implementation of Decision Analysis in Upstream for five years< /p>
Each sessi on is scheduled as a 1 hour presentation followed by a 30 minute Q&\;A session. We fully expect a large turnout so please book early and we hope you make all attempts to attend all four. The PF&\;C Study group apprec iates the support of our SPE GCS members and we look forward to seeing you there.
