Description

Abstract:

Rod pumps are the most popular artificial lift method in the world and offer two variables that characterize all possible problems with the pump – load on the pump versus the depth location of the pump as it moves up and down. We will discuss the data preparation, feature engineering, analysis, ML modeling and validation towards accurately characterizing what problem a rod pumps suffers from and conclude with the economic benefit of doing this.

Description:

Rod pumps play a crucial role in the oil and gas industry by enabling the extraction of hydrocarbons from wells that do not have sufficient natural pressure to bring the fluids to the surface. They are widely used due to their efficiency, reliability, and ability to handle a variety of well conditions. Proper maintenance of rod pumps is essential to ensure their optimal performance, prevent costly downtime, and extend their operational lifespan. By accurately diagnosing and addressing issues, operators can maximize production, reduce operational costs, and enhance overall safety.
