Energy Industry Panel Discussion - Navigating the Energy Transition

 

SPE Members in Transition Hiring Event Panel Discussion will be hosted in-person and virtually on Sept. 30, 2022.

Box lunches will be served to the in-person audience if registered by Noon on Sept. 29, 2022

Parking:

  1. Park in Greenway 5 visitor parking…bring parking ticket inside
  2. Enter Greenway 5 (will be on concourse level)
  3. Go up the escalator to reception on the Plaza level to get a name tag and request parking validation.  Preregistration will speed up this process.
  4. Back down the escalator to the conference center on the concourse level.

Summary of latest COVID protocols:

  1. If you’re sick don’t come.
  2. If you tested positive, isolate until symptom-free for five days.
  3. If you’re exposed but vaccinated, please consider wearing a mask to protect others.
  4. If you’re exposed but NOT vaccinated, isolate for five days then get a test.

Directions:

Oxy is located off the North side feeder road along U.S. 59 Southwest Freeway
➢ If coming from downtown or Hobby Airport, exit Buffalo Speedway. Go past Buffalo Speedway 3/10 of a mile and turn into the visitor parking entrance, identified by following the red arrow above.
➢ If coming from the Southwest, exit Buffalo Speedway and make a U-turn under the freeway. Go 3/10 of a mile on the feeder road and turn into the visitor parking entrance.
➢ Visitor parking may also be entered from Buffalo Speedway and Richmond at the location of the red markers on the map. Follow the signs to the underground parking.
The 5 Greenway visitor parking is located on the South side of Greenway Plaza.

The registration for the “Energy Professionals Hiring Event" on Oct. 4 (in-person) and Oct. 6 (virtual) is NOT included with the registration for the Panel Presentation, and attendance at the Panel Presentation is not required to attend the Hiring Event, but strongly recommended.  The job seeker registration for the “Energy Professionals Hiring Event" will open September 1.

He worked as Project Manager and Engineering Manager on his last few projects.  After retiring in 2016, John pursued a deeper understanding of global energy and the issues driving its future.  He has given multiple presentations on green & hydrocarbon energy; offshore and deepwater facilities; and working with international cultures.

Ganesh C. Thakur, Ph.D., NAE, NAI is Distinguished Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Director of Energy Industry Partnerships at the University of Houston since 2016, leading research with significant contributions in the field of integrated petroleum reservoir management, enhanced oil recovery, unconventional resources, CCS and CCUS (working on CO2 injection projects since 1979).  With fossil resources continuing to be the primary source of energy consumption and increasing emphasis on GHG and climate change restrictions around the world, CCUS plays an increasingly important role in today’s oil and gas operations to address and establish the low carbon technology.  His expertise covers both theoretical and practical aspects of these fields and he has worked in the industry for over 40 years, including 37 years with Chevron. 


His most recent position with Chevron was VP – Reservoir Management of Chevron Technology Center.  He designed and implemented major capital projects involving billions of dollars of investments. He has published over 100 technical and management articles and patents, and authored three books, and two of them serve as textbooks in many universities.  He is 2012 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Former SPE Foundation President.  Dr. Thakur currently serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology (TAMEST).  He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a member and Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.  In addition, he serves as Chevron Fellow Emeritus and Chief Technology Advisor for GeoPark.
