Description

Join the SPE-GCS Business Development Study Group on January 19th for what is sure to be an interesting panel on the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk. Second only to the mighty Permian, the Eagle Ford has a long and storied history as a pillar of US Oil and Gas. The Eagle Ford was a hotbed for M&A activity in 2016 and 2017 with deals moving as fast as sellers could put them on the market! At that time it wasn’t uncommon to see development planning in up to 5 benches! Upper Upper, Upper Lower, Lower Upper, Lower Lower – and don’t forget the Austin Chalk!

By the second half of 2018 deal flow had stalled significantly and remained depressed through the general slow in M&D of 2019 and the Covid economy of 2020. 2021 brought some exciting deals and there is already a significant deal this year. Is this sleeping giant reawakening? And what about multi-horizon development and the Austin Chalk? Will the combination of technology advances and higher commodity prices bring a new wave of activity in this great basin?

The event is January 19th from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at The Petroleum Club of Houston and will feature hors d'oeuvres and networking from 5-6pm. Our monthly sponsor, Cawley, Gillespie & Associates (CGA) has also generously sponsored an open bar during networking from 5-6 pm.

Registration is $45 for members, $55 for non-members and $20 for students, members in transition, and retired members. There will be limited guests so please register in advance.

William D. Von Gonten, Jr. “Bill”, is founder, owner, and president of  Houston, Texas – based W.D. Von Gonten & Co. Petroleum Engineering, formed in 1995 and W.D. Von Gonten, Laboratories, LLC formed in 2013.

Bill is a Registered Petroleum Engineer and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

With 30-plus years of domestic and international industry experience, Bill’s areas of expertise and services span both conventional and unconventional shale plays, including all major plays in the US and Internationally. Extensive work efforts in these areas include oil and gas reserve estimations, field studies, property acquisitions, reservoir simulations, well test analysis, development plans, and economic projections. To better understand unconventional reservoirs, Bill constructed a unique core laboratory to evaluate highly layered reservoirs at centimeter scale.  This state of art laboratory focuses on understanding hydrocarbon flow systems and geomechanical properties.  The lab is very focused on the development of proprietary software for high resolution hydraulic fracture simulation, plus empirical and physics based data analytics.  The new software tools will enable the industry to model the unconventional layered reservoirs and fluid flow unlike any other software in the industry today.

Bill has recently co-developed a proprietary process to evaluate hydraulic fracture connectivity in unconventional reservoirs to improve well production performance. In addition, he has co-developed a method for integrating measurements from known laboratory techniques of fluid extraction.

In 1988, Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas and in April 2015, was named an Outstanding Alumni of the Dwight Look College of Engineering – an honor given each year to former students who have made outstanding contributions to his or her profession, discipline or community.
