Abstract

Unconventional reservoir development has significant challenges.  The use of bottom hole pressure data can contribute greatly to knowledge of the reservoir and assist with well spacing and completion design decisions.

This talk will focus on two different areas: the utilization of multiple pressure gauges in horizontal wells and the benefits of RTA.

  • Horizontal observation well with gauges spaced along the lateral
    • Especially useful when multiple frac designs are implemented along the lateral in an offset well. Interference testing can provide initial communication as well as how each design’s resultant communication changes over time.
    • Can identify differences along the lateral relating to geology and/or treatment effectiveness.
  • Rate Transient Analysis has always been helpful in conventional reservoirs, but in unconventional reservoirs additional information can be extracted relating to early time rate forecasting and well/reservoir interaction.

Biography

Mark Murray joined Sage Rider in August 2019 as a Sr. Reservoir Engineering Advisor. He has 38 years of well-rounded petroleum engineering experience with emphasis in reservoir engineering in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs with primary focus on pressure analysis.  Prior to joining Sage Rider, he spent seven years with Pioneer Natural Resources working unconventional plays in south Texas and the Permian Basin. He has designed and analyzed all types of well tests for oil and gas reservoirs around the world including specialized unconventional reservoir testing, on-site drill stem test supervision, and has authored/presented well testing courses for both conventional and unconventional reservoirs. Mr. Murray holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Norris Center Parking InfoStarting June, norris Center building management will be STRICTLY enforcing parking. ALL Norris attendees must park on the roof of the garage. Those who need handicapped or oversized vehicle parking will be the exception and there are designated spots for those folks. All others will be required to park on the roof. If unloading items, that is fine to do so in a nearby parking spot and then move the vehicle once finished. Attached is the parking map.
