Description

The Need:

  1. Estimated 2-3 % of children have no bed (air mattress, couch, floor)
  2. Many mattresses lost in Hurricane Harvey have not yet been replaced!

Child “bedlessness” is a national problem, and as a national nonprofit with chapters spread across the country, Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) has provided the solution. SHP is a volunteer organization that builds beds for kids who are sleeping on the floor. In order to accomplish the organization’s goals, volunteers are needed to sand, stain, assemble and deliver beds to families in need. Join the SPE-GCS Community Service Committee as we volunteer for this noble cause so that “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!” SHP will provide PPEs and tools needed for the project. Feel free to bring your own PPEs.

Date: Saturday November 13th, 2021

Goal: Build 40 beds.

Start time: we ask 10 people to show up at 8 AM to help set up, with the remainder to start building beds at 9 AM; bed Deliveries start at Noon

We need 45-55 volunteers to build beds and 40 - 50 volunteers to deliver beds, with ~ 18 pick up trucks or SUVs to transport the beds to the families.

Sign up for this opportunity. We would send links to volunteers to sign up on the organization’s website and submit a liability waiver.

Note: Reach out to me if your company can sponsor a project. The cost is $225/bed or $9,000 for 40 beds.
