Speaker #2 Abstract: Unconscious Bias-Why It Happens and How to Work Through It

In our lifetimes we are exposed to similar patterns over and over again, through what we experience and have seen out in the world. These ideas shape us and become our basis for our decision making and interactions. We don’t necessarily feel it or recognize it, but this is the basis for unconscious bias. As a result, unconscious bias typically creates hurdles for inclusion, engagement, and performance, while impeding innovation. Though we can’t completely rid ourselves of unconscious bias, we can learn how to mitigate its impact. This session is both informative and interactive; helping us to learn what unconscious bias is, why it happens, and how to work through it.
