Speaker #1 Abstract: Emotional Intelligence 101- The Key to Peak Performance and Leadership That Works

Emotions exert more powerful influence, for better or for worse, over our ability to function in life than any other aspect of our minds. When they occur intensely, they can overpower all of our higher thought processes, affecting our perceptions, evaluations, thinking, relationships, conversations, beliefs and actions. Yet for all that tremendous impact on our capacity to perform well and work with others, we know next to nothing about emotions, how they operate within us and how to manage them. Nobody ever gave us the owner’s manual for our own inner world!

In this presentation, you will learn answers to the questions:

  • What is Emotional Intelligence, and why is it such a critical success factor?

  • What is an emotion?

  • How do you recognize emotions – in yourself and others?

  • What kinds of emotions are there, and what do they mean?

  • What is the purpose of emotions?

  • How do you deal with emotions?

And you will walk away with some practical tools to use this knowledge to live and lead more powerfully

Speaker #2 and #3 Abstract: SPE Gulf Coast Section Mentoring Initiative

The oil and gas industry is currently in the midst of a demographic shift.  A large proportion of the workforce is comprised of individuals with less than 10 years of experience.  Many older professionals are choosing to transition into retirement or other endeavors.  This workshop seeks to determine interest in an initiative to connect experienced professionals with less seasoned practitioners.  The format will involve an informal discussion on the best methods to do so and the creation of a steering body that could help the SPE GCS navigate this exciting frontier.

Speaker #4 Abstract: Building a career during the downturn; a YP's journey

I started my career at $110 oil. Companies were hiring, students had multiple job offers to choose from, and unless an experienced professional had told you about their experiences, especially during the 80s downturn, you would have thought life in the oil and gas industry will always be as great as 2013! Having to maneuver through the 2015 downturn taught me the value of professional societies and networking. I will share experiences from my joyful and educational journey and what I believe has helped me survive and thrive throughout the downturn and beyond.
