Alan L. Smith, President and CEO, Rockcliff Energy LLC

Alan has been in the oil and gas business for over 32 years and is currently the President and CEO of Rockcliff Energy, a privately-held independent oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas.  He began his career in the East Texas Field in 1986 and after multiple stops at larger E&P companies, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded Chalker Energy Partners in 2003.  Over the past 14 years, he has founded or led six companies to successful outcomes for his investors.  He founded Rockcliff Energy in January of 2015 with $700 million in private equity commitments, led by Quantum Energy Partners, with the company’s focus being in the Ark-La-Tex and Delaware basin areas. 

Prior to Rockcliff Energy, Alan served as both the CEO of Quantum Resources Management, a direct investment private equity fund, and QR Energy, a publicly traded MLP.  He previously was a Managing Director at Quantum Energy Partners, where he actively worked with portfolio companies on strategic, operational and other value-building activities.  Prior to Quantum Energy Partners, Alan served as Founder, President and CEO of Chalker Energy Partners, was Chairman of Chalker Energy Partners II and Lead Board Member of Chalker Energy Partners III.  Prior to Chalker, Alan held positions of increasing responsibility at Ocean Energy, XPLOR Energy, Ryder Scott Company, Burlington Resources and ARCO Oil and Gas Company. 

Alan is presently a District Vice President for the Upper Gulf Coast of the Texas Oil and Gas Association (TXOGA) and is a member of the US Oil & Gas Association’s (USOGA) Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He serves as a board member for the Southeastern Region IPAA and is on the Petroleum Advisory Board for the Texas Tech Department of Petroleum Engineering.  He is a board member of the Center for Hearing and Speech and an elder at Christ the King Presbyterian Church.  He holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University.

 

 

 

Blake Webster, Managing Director, Quantum Energy Partners

Blake participates in Quantum’s investment activities, including investment sourcing, transaction structuring and execution, and working closely with portfolio companies in developing and executing their business plans.

Prior to joining Quantum, Blake was an Associate with Morgan Stanley in its Global Energy and Utilities Equity Research group with coverage across the upstream, midstream, and power sectors. Prior to Morgan Stanley, he was an Associate with Southwest Bank of Texas. Blake holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A. from Rice University and is a C.F.A. Charterholder.

 

 

 

Brad Thielemann, Managing Director, EnCap Investments

Mr. Thielemann is a Managing Director with EnCap Investments and actively participates in deal origination, structuring, execution and monitoring of EnCap portfolio companies.  Prior to rejoining EnCap in 2006, Mr. Thielemann worked in the Investor Relations and Strategic Planning Groups at Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. Previously, he was an Associate at EnCap and a Treasury Analyst at Dynegy.

Mr. Thielemann received a Master of Business Administration degree from Duke University and a B.B.A degree from The University of Texas at Austin.  He serves on the board of directors of several EnCap portfolio companies, is on the board of the Houston Producers’ Forum and is a member and member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America.

 

 

Cody Carper, Partner, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP

Cody Carper is a partner in the Corporate & Financial Services Department. Cody focuses on complex transactions across the energy spectrum, including drilling partnerships and other joint development arrangements, the acquisition and divestiture of upstream and midstream oil and gas assets and companies, as well as oil and gas financing transactions. He also regularly handles the negotiation of farmout agreements, joint operating agreements and gathering agreements. Formerly the Assistant General Counsel for a large privately held oil and gas company, Cody frequently advises oil and gas companies and sponsors regarding day-to-day land, marketing, drilling, completion and other operational issues. 

 

 

 

 

 

Chris Atherton, President, EnergyNet, Inc.

Chris Atherton is the President of EnergyNet, Inc. EnergyNet is an oil and gas asset acquisition and divestiture firm specializing in auction sales, sealed bid transactions and government lease sales. Chris has been part of the EnergyNet team since 2002. He has been actively involved as the firm has completed over $6B in transactions including sell-side mandates from thousands of Exploration and Production clients. Chris leads a multi-disciplinary team of 50 professionals specializing in engineering, land, technical, business development, marketing, IT and administration.

Chris has 18 years of experience in the energy industry. Chris graduated from Texas State in San Marcos with a business management and marketing degree. Prior to EnergyNet, Chris worked at the Enron Corporation in Houston, Texas.

Chris currently serves as the Chairman of the Wildcatter’s Host Committee for the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers. Chris served as the Chairman for the SPE-Gulf Coast Section Business Development Study Group for three years. He is also an active member of the IPAA, Texas Energy Alliance, ADAM Houston, ADAM Permian and Houston Producer's Forum. Chris holds series 39, 22 and 63 SEC licenses.

 

 

 

 

 

Clair Harvey, Principal, Energy Investment Team, Pine Brook Partners

Ms. Harvey joined Pine Brook in March 2014 and is a principal on the energy investment team. She represents Pine Brook as a board director of GR Energy Services Holdings LP and Red Bluff Resources, LLC.

Before joining Pine Brook, Ms. Harvey was with TPH Partners (an affiliate of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co.), where she was a principal specializing in investments in the upstream, midstream and oilfield services sectors. Prior to that, she was an associate in the Global Natural Resources Group at Lehman Brothers/Barclays Capital. Earlier in her career, Ms. Harvey served in corporate development positions for Constellation Energy Group, Inc. and Enron Corporation.

Ms. Harvey holds a B.B.A. in Finance from Texas A&M University, where she was a four-year letterman and co-captain of the volleyball team. Ms. Harvey was also a Jones Scholar and the M.A. Wright Award winner at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Rice University, where she earned an M.B.A. Ms. Harvey is a member of the board of advisors of Texas A&M University’s Department of Finance and the Petroleum Ventures Program.

 

 

David Ramsden-Wood, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Office, OneEnergy Partners

Mr. David Ramsden-Wood serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of OneEnergy Partners. Prior to co-founding OneEnergy, Mr. Ramsden-Wood was VP of Reservoir Engineering and Business Development at Sundance Energy, was an advisor to TPG and Vitesse Oil and was the Business Unit Manager for Western US Operations at Enerplus. Mr. Ramsden-Wood started his career at Anadarko Petroleum. 

 

 

 

 

Derek Detring, President, Detring Energy Advisors

Derek’s career has been fully devoted to energy advisory, where he has completed over $7.5 billion in capital raising and M&A advisory transactions. Derek spent the first four years of his career at Merrill Lynch, where he primarily focused on capital raising and M&A assignments for large, publicly-listed companies, followed by four years at Integral Advisors, a boutique A&D advisory firm he co-founded in 2009. Most recently, Derek served within Wells Fargo’s A&D group, where he helped package, market and close several transactions.

Derek graduated summa cum laude and first in his engineering class from Vanderbilt University and attended the Wharton Executive Education Program, where he passed with honors.

 

 

 

Drew Allen, Senior Vice President, Macquarie Bank, Energy Capital Group

Drew Allen joined Macquarie Bank’s Energy Capital group in 2008 and currently serves as Senior Vice President, focusing on stretch debt and project finance opportunities primarily in the upstream sector.  His responsibilities include transaction origination, structuring, due diligence, and execution.  His experience includes >$1 billion in debt capital commitments. 

Prior to Macquarie, Mr. Allen was an analyst in SMH Capital’s Investment Banking group and started his career as an analyst in Ernst & Young’s Transaction Advisory Services group.  Mr. Allen grew up in Oklahoma City and earned a B.S. in Finance with honors from Arizona State University in 2005.  He is a member of the Houston Producers’ Forum and Independent Petroleum Association of America.

 

 

 

Donald Burdick, CEO, Olifant Energy, LLC

Donald Burdick is the CEO and Co-Founder of Olifant Energy, LLC, an EnCap portfolio company that started in June 2017. He previously served as the VP of Geology/New Ventures at Panther Energy II, a Kayne Anderson portfolio company that began in September 2013 and sold for $863 MM in January 2017. Donald’s 34-year career has included a variety of technical and managerial experiences that began as a prospecting geologist for Marathon Oil in 1984. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the OIPA, a Trustee Associate of the AAPG Foundation and is the founder of ADAM-Tulsa and the Tulsa IrishFest. He has a BS in geology from Duke University and an MS from the University of Oklahoma.

 

 

 

 

James Wallis, Partner, NGP

Mr. Wallis joined NGP in 2017 and serves as a Partner in the Houston office, where he concentrates on NGP’s transaction sourcing and execution as well as the monitoring of active portfolio companies.

Previously, Mr. Wallis was a Managing Director with Lime Rock Partners, which he joined in 2007. His primary focus was on North American E&P and oilfield service opportunities. Prior to joining Lime Rock, Mr. Wallis worked in the energy investing banking groups of Merrill Lynch and Petrie Parkman & Co. Mr. Wallis received a B.B.A. in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Business Honors Program.

 

  

Jason Craig, Managing Director, Denham Capital

Jason Craig is a Managing Director, responsible for origination, analysis, structuring and execution of investments for the O&G Deal Team. He joined Denham Capital in 2012.

Prior to joining Denham, Jason was a Petroleum Engineer with Newfield Exploration. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Fairway Resources III, Bradford Minerals, Horizon Resources III, and Live Oak Resource Partners.

Justin Moore, Sr. Landman, Rio Oil and Gas II

Justin Moore is a Sr. Landman in the Business Development Group of Rio Oil and Gas II, LLC. Through Justin’s decade-long career, he has had the opportunity to participate in over 70 upstream oil and gas transactions representing >$3 Billion of value. He
previously served in the same role for the first iteration of Rio Oil and Gas, LLC which had a successful exit via sale to Diamondback Energy, Inc. and Concho Resources for $521MM in September of 2014.


Prior to joining Rio Oil and Gas in November 2013, Justin worked for Occidental Petroleum where he began his career in 2008. While at Oxy, he held various land negotiator assignments, ultimately transitioning into the business development group where he focused on asset transactions mainly in the Permian Basin Justin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from The University of Texas at Austin where he was also a letterman on the football team (2005-2007).  He currently serves on the IPAA Business Development Committee and is a member of the ADAM Energy Forum, AAPL, HAPL and PBLA professional organizations. Justin lives in Houston, Texas with his wife and two children.

 

 

 

Mark Bahorich, Co-Founder, Q.Engineering

Mr. Bahorich is fortunate to have built his career in parallel to the modern shale boom. A passionate dreamer, he has loved experimenting with how to unite computational power with a clean platform to unlock value and optimize investment decisions. He would spend every day in a conference room brainstorming and loves databases. Generally over-eager, all his jackets are just a little tighter to help him remember not to raise his hand every time. Mr. Bahorich has worked assets in every shale basin first with Plains Exploration in Houston and then with Atinum Energy Investments and Castleton Commodities. Matthew B. Ockwood, Managing Director, Chambers Energy Capital

Mr. Ockwood is a Managing Director of Chambers Energy Management and participates directly in the firm's investment activities including transaction sourcing, structuring, due diligence, negotiations and ongoing monitoring of investments.  While at Chambers Energy, Mr. Ockwood has led or participated in the execution of more than two dozen distinct oil and gas transactions ranging from secured debt to common equity.  He takes an active role in managing relationships within the firm's credit portfolio and has served on the board of directors of several companies in the firm's structured equity portfolio.  His investment experience covers a range of domestic energy subsectors including upstream, downstream, and oilfield services.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Ockwood was employed by Lehman Brothers where he worked in the Natural Resources investment banking group.  During his tenure at Lehman Brothers, Mr. Ockwood participated in numerous energy transactions including M&A, equity, and debt financings.

Mr. Ockwood holds a B.B.A in Finance, summa cum laude, and a Certificate in Leadership Study and Development from Texas A&M University.  While at Texas A&M, Mr. Ockwood served as the Commander of the Corps of Cadets and received the President's Award for leadership from Dr. Robert Gates.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Michael De Voe Piazza, Partner, 

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP

Michael De Voe Piazza is a partner in the Corporate & Financial Services Department and the co-head of Willkie’s energy practice, focusing on a wide variety of transactions in the financial, oil and gas and electric power industries. Michael represents clients in transactions that feature oil and gas exploration and production (including upstream, midstream and downstream), electric utilities, commodity trading, joint venture arrangements, structured finance, leveraged finance, project finance and project development. Parker Reese, President and CEO, Ameredev

Mr. Reese is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ameredev.

Prior to forming Ameredev, he served in engineering roles at Three Rivers Operating Co., and Cimarex Energy Co. He began his career as an engineer with ConocoPhillips.

Mr. Reese graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He currently serves on the industry board of the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

 

 

 

 

 Patrick Lissonnet, Managing Director, Kayne Anderson’s 

Patrick Lissonnet is a managing director for Kayne Anderson’s private equity activities in the energy space, where he focuses on identifying and analyzing investment opportunities and ongoing oversight of existing investments and sits on the firm’s investment committee.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2013, Mr. Lissonnet was a reservoir engineer with Netherland, Sewell & Associates, Inc. a Texas-based oil and gas consulting firm that provides a complete range of professional reservoir engineering, geophysical and geological services to the worldwide petroleum industry. Mr. Lissonnet began his career in the oil and gas industry in 2003 with Exxon Mobil Corporation, U.S. Production where he held various reservoir and operations assignments.

Mr. Lissonnet earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 2003 and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008.

 

  

Preston Powell, Managing Director, Carnelian Energy Capital

Mr. Powell is a Principal of Carnelian Energy Capital Management, L.P., where he focuses on sourcing investments, transaction due diligence and execution and monitoring of active portfolio companies. Prior to joining Carnelian, Mr. Powell was a Vice President in the Oil and Gas Group at Denham Capital Partners. Randy Newcomer Jr., President and CEO, Riverbend Oil and Gas

Mr. Newcomer has served as President & Chief Executive Officer since Riverbend’s inception in 2003.

Previously, Mr. Newcomer served as Vice President of EnCap Investments L.P. (from 1997 to 2003) where he evaluated a multitude of financings involving mezzanine debt and equity investments. Mr. Newcomer began his career in 1989 at Amoco Production Company serving in diverse production and reservoir engineering, business development, and acquisition and divestment roles (all associated with activities in the Permian Basin).

Mr. Newcomer holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and an Executive MBA from the University of Houston. E&P companies that Mr. Newcomer has served and/or serves on the Board of Directors of include Riverbend, Ovation Energy, Chalker Energy II & III, Navidad Resources and Parsley Energy. Richard Stoneburner, Managing Director, Pine Brook Partners

Mr. Stoneburner joined Pine Brook in April 2013 and is a managing director on the energy investment team. Mr. Stoneburner represents Pine Brook as a director of Accelerate Resources Holdings, LLC, Brigham Resources, LLC, Pursuit Oil & Gas, LLC, Red Bluff Resources, LLC and Sagauro Resources, LLC.

Mr. Stoneburner has over 41 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He served as president of the North America Shale Production Division for BHP Billiton Petroleum from 2011 to 2012. From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Stoneburner served as president and chief operating officer of Petrohawk Energy Corporation. He was the company’s chief operating officer from 2007 to 2009, and led their exploration activities as vice president and then executive vice president of exploration from 2003 to 2007. Mr. Stoneburner began his career as a geologist in 1977 and held positions at Texas Oil and Gas Corp., Weber Energy Corp., Hugoton Energy Corp. and 3TEC Energy Corp.

Mr. Stoneburner is on the board of directors of Yuma Exploration and Tamboran Resources and is an advisor to Ayata.  He also serves on the advisory council of The Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, on the visiting committee of the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin, is a board member of Switch Energy Alliance and is a board member for Memorial Assistance Ministries.  He is also President and a board member of the Houston Producers Forum.

Mr. Stoneburner holds a B.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.S. in Geological Sciences from Wichita State University.

 

 

 

Stewart Coleman, Managing Director, Pearl Energy Investments

Stewart Coleman is a Managing Director of Pearl Energy Investments. Prior to joining Pearl, Stewart was a Vice President in the Opportunistic Investments Group at Crestline Investors, a Fort Worth, Texas-based alternative asset manager. Before joining Crestline, Stewart was an Associate at Kelso & Company in New York, where he focused on evaluating investments in the upstream and midstream sectors. Stewart began his career as an Analyst in the investment banking division at Citigroup.

Stewart holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the Business Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin.
