Description

Oil and gas operators are inherently good with structured data, naturally, as this is the very data in which their decisions are based. Unstructured data has always been the thorn in the side of the data hungry oil and gas operator. Every geologist or engineer has asked themselves at least a time or two in their day “If I could only convert the content of this SPE paper, or this unstructured bit of text on this completion report into structured data, then we could really take advantage of it!”. Reed and Expert System work with some of the most admired and respected oil and gas companies in the world to solve the hardest of unstructured data challenges. Whether it is within a geological context, or a health and safety context, companies want to be able to machine read all of their internal documents quickly, in order to analyze and make sense of the knowledge at hand. Keyword and statistics based technologies fall short, however deep linguistics are the answer to accurately being able to tell the difference between “Yates” the company, “Yates” the oilfield, or “Yates” the well. Understanding the meaning of words in context is the critical component to be able to remove the ambiguity that exists in the language.
