SPE Gulf Coast Section supports Thanksgiving Houston SuperFeast

What:         Thanksgiving Houston Superfeast    Where:       Grounds of Houston City Hall, Volunteer Tent – 500 Walker @ Smith When:        Thanksgiving Day,  November 27, 2008 Time:          4:30am - 5:00pm Stay 1 hour, 2 hours, or entire day Questions: Russ Neuschafer w/ SPE-GCS, RNeuschafer@slb.com                    Or  The Volunteer Hotline  (713) 516-3501 The SPE-GCS will be one of the sponsors for the 24th Annual Thanksgiving Houston Superfeast to be held Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2008. The event will be held on the grounds of Houston City Hall (located at 900 Smith between Walker and McKinney) and Tranquility Park.  The Superfeast will serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner (turkey, dressing and all the trimmings) to the homeless and less fortunate of the City of Houston. Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.   The serving time will be extended if needed. No one is ever turned …

The Board of Directors of SPE GCS hopes that our members and their families have come through Hurricane Ike safely and with minimal loss of property. Many of you may be in a position to help others less fortunate with donations or volunteer efforts.    This email and article is to advise you of charitable and volunteer opportunities during this time of need in the community. SPE-GCS hosts 'Exploring Earth Science - A Summer Institute' with EIH

The Environmental Institute of Houston (EIH) / UH Clear Lake (UHCL) has partnered with the SPE-GCS to host the second annual 'Exploring Earth Science - A Summer Institute' (http://prtl.uhcl.edu/portal/page/portal/EIH/education/collaborative/workshop). The three primary goals of these summer development workshops for Houston-area 4th-8th grade science teachers are to: 1) Train/educate teachers in aspects of geology, earth science, environmental science, and energy content areas, 2) Provide participants with lessons/materials for classroom integration, and 3) Link workshop topics with student career considerations. The SPE-GCS is currently requesting member participation in workshop activities on June 11 and July 23, 2008. Specifically, we are asking SPE members to participate as morning ‘Career Booth Custodians’, representing the following general disciplines (1-2 members needed per discipline): ·      Petroleum Geology ·      Geophysics ·      Drilling ·      Completions/Production Engineering ·      Projects/Facilities/Construction ·      Reservoir/Production Engineering ·      Safety/Environment ·      Land/Legal/Commercial Additionally, we are requesting 4 members to provide thirty-minute afternoon presentations/demonstrations …
