Society of Petroleum Engineers Internship Committee
2004 Summer job placement of SPE-GCS Scholarship Recipients
The Society of Petroleum Engineers - Gulf Coast Section has placed many of its scholarship recipients in summer internships over the past few summers. Summer internships give the students hands-on experience in the petroleum industry and an idea of what day-to-day engineering work is like. This experience makes our scholarship recipients greater assets as new hires to the companies that hire them. These summer internships benefit both the students and the oil and gas companies.
In November, the SPE-GCS hosted five high school recruiting fairs across Houston to introduce high school seniors to the petroleum industry and the SPE-GCS programs available to them. We are very excited that the SPE-GCS will soon be awarding scholarships to a group of these high school seniors and encourage their interest in the petroleum industry.
To follow through with our commitment to encourage high school seniors to enter the petroleum field, the SPE-GCS works to place as many of these students in a job during the summer prior to commencing college. This year we anticipate having a large number of our scholarship recipients interested in summer internships. The SPE-GCS would like to ask for your help. We are looking for companies to help place our scholarship recipients in summer jobs. Please consider reserving a place in your Summer 2004 Internship Program for at least one high school senior SPE-GCS scholarship recipient. We plan to have resume packets of scholarship recipients ready to distribute in late April. If you are interested in hiring one of these students for this summer, please contact Kelly Barber at (713) 369-9234 or email@example.com.
