I graduated with my BS in Materials Science in 1986, during a major economic downturn in the oil industry, and was fortunately college recruited into Hewlett-Packard Company in Silicon Valley.    In 1997, my career took another major turn when I took a role as a Senior Quality Consultant, supporting HP’s mid-level management team in organizational effectiveness, business process reengineering, team effectiveness, leadership/executive coaching, and strategy development facilitation.   I left HP in 2008 and started my own executive coaching and organizational development company, Terry Hildebrandt and Associates, LLC.  I co-authored the book, Leading Business Change for Dummies in 2012.  I launched my second company, Activating Leadership in 2015.  The SPE scholarship sparked an interest in Oil and Gas.  I learned a lot about the industry during my summer internship in 1985 at Exxon Production Research. My advice to students is to diversify your education and interests and be ready to manage your own career.  The unpredictable global economy will force you to stay on your toes.  Don’t expect any company to manage your career.  You must do this for yourself.
