Career Transition Primer

INSURANCE
Insurance is also a prime concern when you no longer have a regular job. Not car insurance, not house insurance, not even life insurance. The insurance everyone worries about is medical (health) insurance. When you're shopping for insurance on your own, you can't hardly afford it. At the same time, you can't afford to be without it. Initially, insurance available through COBRA (former company benefits discussed above) may get you past emergencies. If your spouse has a job, insurance may be available through their employer. SPE is also a source of medical insurance, whether you're unemployed or starting your own business. Another source of insurance for those starting their own business is the National Association for the Self-Employed. They can be reached at either 713-444-9636 or 713-977-8558 and have other services available also.
