PFC: Managing Project Complexity
Our projects still accomplish what they always have – produce and separate oil, gas and water. However, the “world class” projects of today are much more complex. They are larger, more technically sophisticated, in more remote and difficult places, face a more demanding public, must adhere to more onerous and comprehensive regulations, and are designed and built by teams spread across the globe.
Most projects overrun their budget and/or schedule significantly and/or produce less oil/gas than promised. The complexity of our projects and project design teams is at least partially responsible for project failure rates.
An SPE Work Study group is presently addressing the impact of complexity and its contribution to project failures. The presentation will include preliminary findings from that study.
