Description

The SPE Members in Transition Seminar Series is designed to include a selection of topics of interest to SPE members who are transitioning in between jobs during the current industry downturn or who are looking for new career opportunities.  The agenda for the seventeenth seminar in the series will include ”Transition – an End Game,” “Developing Innovation Leadership in O&G ”, “Lessons Learnt from a Startup” and a “Discussion of Resources for SPE Members”.

In addition, she is COO of Cheney Energy Partners, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company.  Libby has held engineering through executive positions with ExxonMobil, Shell and Hess Corporation. Over the last 10 years, she has developed deep insight and experience in the management of non-technical risks including occupational and process safety, environment, and social and economic responsibility and resilience. Libby has a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.


 


Event Description/Presentation Abstract: Transition – an End Game


Describing yourself to others as ‘In Transition’ can evoke reactions of horror at varying levels. From “What terrible thing did you do to deserve this?” to “I’m SO SO SO sorry for your loss” to “Are you going to want something from me?”. But there is no need to fear. ‘In Transition’ can be a time of gearing up for the next adventure, a sabbatical of self-discovery or a launch pad to more satisfying and fulfilling endeavors. It can even be an end game. In this talk, Libby will share her stories of being ‘In Transition’ along with strategies, tricks and tools to help you manage through this rich and rewarding career phase.

She most recently worked in O&G, where she served as Director of Program Management and Sr. IP Portfolio Manager for a Fortune 500. In this session, we will share our story, our lessons learnt and get you some insights that you can take and use it in your professional life including the following: The challenges of going from Working for Someone to Starting our Own Company. The stories of how we wanted to back out of it, but what kept us going. How did we survive the downturn? How people perceive who you are? Is there a standard way of doing things?  What is happening today in this Industry? Examples of real life stories of people who are surviving. We just need to find our path and never give up.
