Study Group: Digital Energy

A one-day workshop was held June 8 in Houston that focused on “The Value of Real Time Data.” It was jointly sponsored by the Gulf Coast Section and the Real Time Optimization Technical Interest Group. In preparing for the workshop, we searched the OnePetro literature database for papers documenting the value of real time data. The goal was to find and document as many case studies as possible to provide quantitative data on the value actually realized from the use of real-time data.  We also invited a number of speakers on the subject.  Each of their presentations were documented in Podcasts, available on the Gulf Coast Section website. In addition, we polled the 150 workshop attendees on what challenges remain.

The documents produced by the Workshop are included as attachments on this page:
  1. The results of the literature search are summarized in six Excel spreadsheets.
  2. A summary is shown in "Literature Review Slides"
  3. The results of the attendee survey is shown in "Attendee Questionnaire Slides"
  4. Individual presentations from the speakers are included.  (The Pod casts are provided elsewhere on the Gulf Coast Section web site.)
An SPE International workshop on Digital Energy is planned for November 10 and 11 in Rio de Janeiro.  See the SPE Calendar for more information.

Mission Statement

To exchange information on the operational and business drivers with communications and knowledge -based IT processes and systems within our industry. Intranets, satellites, wireless devices and the Internet are new tools for improving productivity and profitability. The results are new ways of networking, (e-)learning, knowledge management and conducting (e-)business. The (not so new) news is we now have a digital oilfield. Our goal is to:
· provide opportunities for members to acquire and upgrade their technical skills,
· establish networking opportunities for those with common interests, and
· emphasize and demonstrate the impact that digital technology has on SPE members in the E&P industry.
