Entry Level
Describe Your Ideal Job:
Ideal description for a full-time petroleum engineering position would be specific to focal areas such as reservoir engineering/ reservoir modeling, reservoir simulation and forecasting, production enhancement, or drilling design. The projects which would be focused on in this position would concern unconventional resources, enhanced recovery methods, hydraulic fracture optimization/design, reserves analysis, or well control.
The ideal position would also require a high degree of technical competency in areas such as oil and gas industry software, programming, and computational methods.
Travel requirements for this position would be no greater than 50% of each calendar year.
Ideal locations for this position are located in Texas, specifically Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, College Station/Bryan, Caldwell, Austin, Midland, and San Antonia.
The position would require team-based projects as well as individual responsibilities, both which are continually stimulating and challenging.
Experience:
Texas A&M University Petroleum Engineering Dept./Crisman Institute – BASINS Project Summer Intern
(May - August 2009):
Worked under Dr. Walt Ayers and Dr. Stephen Holditch and alongside several other summer interns with an ultimate goal of populating several North American analog basin databases comprised of over 70 petroleum engineering and geological parameters. Individually focused on the Western Canadian Sedimentary basin and prepared a written report discussing the geologic and structural settings, source and reservoir rock analyses, current and future production analysis, and personal comments and conclusions regarding the basin and its application as an analog.
BASIN Software Modification (Senior Project; continual)
(May 2009 - March 2010):
By restricting the input of qualitative parameters to a pre-specified list of accepted input terms presented in a graphical user interface, 190 instances for the possibility of improper input by the user have been eliminated. These restrictions have reduced the probability of an error message being returned to zero. A preliminary matching worksheet functioning through the installation of logic and conditional statements creates a brief location for a user to review the error and uncertainty of a chosen match. This addition creates an instantaneous method for choosing to continue the analog method or abandon a chosen match. Modifying the base functionality of the BASIN workbooks using logical statements eliminates all false positive returns when matching incomplete basin worksheets.
