Scholarships

The deadline has passed to submit the SPE-GCS scholarship application for the 2009-10 academic year.

 
SPEGCS scholarships

Each year, the Gulf Coast Section and the Houston SPE Auxiliary award one-year renewable scholarships to outstanding high school seniors planning to major in engineering or science and wishing to pursue a career in the petroleum industry. To apply for the scholarship, a student must meet the following requirements:
  • Plan to work in the petroleum industry
  • Enroll in an engineering or science program at a university in the fall
  • Currently be a high school senior
  • Currently reside in Houston and 28-county Gulf Coast area
  • Have a minimum SAT score of 1650
  • Be a U.S. citizen

Scholarship Requirements

Information that the SPE-GCS uses to evaluate the students includes the following:
  • High school academic record

  • Activities

  • Awards and honors

  • SAT score

  • Reference letters

  • Financial need

Each applicant must also write a short essay and be interviewed by members of the Gulf Coast Section's Scholarship Committee and the Houston SPE Auxiliary.


The registration deadline for 2009-10 applications has passed. Please check back in fourth quarter of 2009 for more information.
