Event Description

In an information and process-driven business environment such as the Upstream industry, the ability to standardize core information is of strategic importance. Currently, core information for many large multinational E&P companies remains in data silos, preventing an integrated and consistent view of data across applications and business functions. Historical data sharing methods have created multiple copies of information and a maintenance intensive web of interfacing. A number of informal and formal surveys estimated that between 20-60% of an earth scientist’s or engineer’s time is spent looking for information, verifying its accuracy, and formatting the data into analytical or modeling tools for analysis. Upstream master data is the core information shared across the business and a Master Data Management (MDM) solution establishes a set of disciplines, technologies, and processes to maintain consistent, complete, contextual, and accurate master data for all stakeholders.

This session will describe the components of an effective MDM program strategy including:
· Understanding the value of MDM and building a compelling Business Case
· Establishing the MDM Information Scope
· Developing the fit for purpose Information and Solution Architecture
· Building the required Governance/MDM Organizational Competencies

Examples of MDM implementations will also be presented.
