Details for "Permian Basin: Improving CO2 Flood Operations in Mature Fields"
Kinder Morgan operates the SACROC and Yates fields, two of the largest oil fields in Texas. These types of mature oil fields exist throughout the world and many are candidates for EOR processes such as CO2 flooding. These CO2 flood candidate oil fields exhibit both positive and negative attributes for this flooding process. Operators must understand how to leverage on the positive attributes and deal with the negative attributes in a manageable fashion. Some of the positive attributes include: 1) large production and injection databases, and 2) sufficient geological data to develop reservoir descriptions. Negative attributes include: 1) problem wellbores, 2) poor past operating practices, and 3) aged infrastructure such as gathering lines and facilities. This presentation describes how such candidate reservoirs for CO2 flooding can be developed into economically successful ventures.
