Details for "PF&C: Goal Zero in a Non-Zero World"
The Perdido Development Project is a development of the Great White, Silver Tip and Tobago fields in the remote western Gulf of Mexico, located in ultra-deep waters. Perdido will be the first development of the Lower Tertiary (Paleogene) geologic setting in the Gulf of Mexico. Moored in 7817 feet of water in Alaminos Canyon Block 857, the spar host will be the world’s deepest drilling and production facility in the world. In 9627 feet of water, the Tobago subsea oil well will be the deepest producing well in the world.
Even given the difficult technical and marketplace challenges that had to be overcome, the Perdido project leaders committed themselves, as the highest priority, to achieving “Goal Zero”, where no one would be hurt delivering the project or operating the asset in the future. Perdido’s experiences in delivering a Goal Zero project, including strategies, successes and learnings, will be discussed in this presentation.
Dale is currently the Project Manager for the Perdido Development Project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. He has worked for Shell for 23 years starting in Research and Development and then moving into the deepwater projects organization. He worked as a mechanical engineer and then lead engineer on the Auger, Mars, Ram-Powell and Ursa projects. He then became the Well Systems Manager responsible for the Ursa and Brutus platform drilling and riser systems, and for the Angus, Europa and Macaroni subsea project well completions. In Aberdeen, he was the Expro Subsea Manager responsible for Shell’s U.K. subsea projects and maintenance of all subsea facilities. He then became the General Manager of the EP Projects organization in Aberdeen, responsible for engineering and project management in support of projects in Gabon, Nigeria, Qatar, the Netherlands and the U.K. Upon returning to the U.S., he became the Perdido Development Project Manager, responsible for concept selection, design, construction and startup of the new asset.
Dale has a BS degree from the U.S. Military Academy, a MSME degree from Penn State and is a registered Professional Engineer. Prior to joining Shell, he worked as a professional engineer in the U.S. Army and in the paper industry.
