Details for "Northside - Technical Well Cost Model for Unconventional Oil"

More emphasis is being placed on the potential of unconventional resources, like oil shale and oil sands, as part of the overall energy mix to help meet the world’s growing energy needs.  The Wells Manufacturing System is a key component of successful unconventional oil projects since innovative approaches, such as major changes in equipment, staffing and contracting strategy, are required to make these projects economically attractive.

This presentation explains the Wells Manufacturing Objectives and introduces the Technical Well Cost Model used for assembling complex cost scenarios.  Discussion includes the effect of input parameters such as engineering knowledge, economic assumptions, and operational practices on well cost.  Such modeling is essential to the exploration of innovative approaches for driving well costs to significantly lower levels and making unconventional oil and gas projects successful.

Speaker Bruce Selby

A native of Southern California and a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Bruce has 30 years of petroleum industry experience, and seven years with Shell.  He has worked for Shell, Halliburton, and Smith International in a variety of technology, engineering, and management roles.  His experience includes drill bits, downhole tools, directional drilling, coiled tubing applications, and managed pressure drilling and completions.

He is currently based in Houston and has spent nine years living and working in the Middle East and Far East.  In addition, he has traveled to and worked on projects in Africa, South America, Europe, and Russia.

He has co-authored several technical papers on drilling equipment and processes, and he has served both as program chair and on program committees for several IADC and SPE conferences and forums.
