Details for "Drilling Study Group - The Extraction of Mud Stuck Tubing Using Vibratory Resonance Techniques"

This presentation focuses on the extraction of stuck tubulars using a Forced Oscillatory Motion tuned to the resonance of the stuck system.  The resulting process transfers sufficient energy downhole to extract stuck pipe only with surface preparations and requires no pipe tripping to install downhole equipment.  Using this technique, stuck pipe has been recovered at depths greater than 17,000 ft even after 24-48 hrs of jarring operations.  Rig up of the system usually requires no more than one hour before commencing the resonant vibration techniques.  In this presentation a summary of the technology is explained along with case studies that showcase success stories and applications.

This presentation is based on SPE 109530.

Speaker Ozzie Gonzalez

Ozzie Gonzalez is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Buffalo in NY State. His background covers nuclear mechanical equipment design, computer based electronic measurements sales and support, and oil and gas research. Ozzie has taught and published in the area of Fourier Transform applications for the aerospace defense industry and vibration research for the oil and gas industry. His current position is that of Sr. Technology Development Engineer for Vibration Technology, Inc., a division of Layne Christensen Company.
