Details for "Westside: Horizontal Well Production Analysis"

Horizontal Well Production Analysis

Numerous horizontal well completion techniques are being employed in the industry today.  The successful completion of horizontal wells presents unique challenges that extend all the way back to initial well permitting and continue through the life of the well.  In low permeability reservoirs the horizontal well is commonly fracture stimulated before it is placed on production.  Determining the effectiveness of the completion is necessary in order to evaluate the productive potential of the reservoir.  This presentation will examine several techniques that can be used to evaluate the completion efficiency of horizontal wells that have been completed with multiple transverse fractures, including horizontal well production analysis, corresponding vertical well performance, and various industry “rules of thumb”.

Speaker Stuart Cox

Stuart Cox is a Senior Technical Consultant with Marathon’s Upstream Technology organization in Houston.  He has 24 years of experience focused on operations and reservoir engineering.  Since 1990 Stuart’s primary focus has been production optimization of tight gas reservoirs.  He has made numerous technical presentations on production analysis and well optimization to universities and SPE groups.  He is an in-house instructor at Marathon on pressure transient analysis and production analysis.  Stuart graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.S. degree in petroleum engineering.  He has authored twelve SPE papers on this topic.
